Joe’s Vision
Drawn from 25+ years in Escondido classrooms, these are the priorities Joe will champion on the EUHSD Board.
Parent involvement is key in being able to promote successful students in our district. I have seen this for over 25 years of teaching. Whenever parents invest time, participate in school activities, and connect with the school’s administration and teacher staff, students are much more involved, invested, and established in their learning.
Personally knowing students who feel accountable to not only the school’s staff but also their parents for their learning, I have witnessed how these are the students who are successful. We teachers love seeing when students and parents partner with the schools — and we see exponential growth in academics, greater confidence, and a solid foundation in attitude and behavior as students prepare for their future.
From personal experience as an educator, I know parent involvement is key to a successful district.
When elementary and high-school districts partner with each other there is a continuity that boosts students’ success for academic growth from kindergarten through 12th grade. Having had the privilege of working in districts where there is a strong partnership between elementary and high schools, I consider it one of my greatest privileges to see students successfully transition and grow from childhood into young adulthood during their educational years.
The elementary and high school districts in Escondido need to hold this partnership with great respect and collaborate in whatever ways they can to ensure a positive and successful educational experience for all students.
From personal experience as an educator, I know collaboration between the elementary and high school districts is key to a successful district.
Students who anticipate their future careers are much more motivated to succeed as they prepare for and enter high school. I love to talk to students about their dreams and how they can use their academic opportunities to prepare for possible careers. This is one of our district’s most important topics — we need to motivate and encourage all students as they anticipate their future place in the world.
When a student anticipates a career in medicine, business, education, the trades, or many other pathways, they can fine-tune their efforts to get prepared and equipped. This requires robust career-based classes available to our high schoolers to begin their journey into jobs that match their personal strengths, talents, and ambitions.
From personal experience as an educator, I know career-based classes are key to a successful district.
Meeting our students where they are at in their ability levels is a major key to a successful district. Being involved and invested as a special education educator with hundreds of special education students over the last 25 years, I count it a great privilege to give students and their families access to opportunities to develop their skills and talents.
Supporting students and educators in special education is crucial to our district to provide a hopeful future for our students no matter what their ability.
From personal experience as a special education educator, I know meeting our special education students where they are at, caring for them, and empowering their opportunities are key to a successful district.
Joe in the Community
I have seen what happens when students of every ability are truly seen, challenged, and supported. That’s the school district I want every Escondido family to have.
